STORYCOACHING

  • Plays/Musicals

Whether you’ve already got an entire draft or you only have the spark of an idea, I can provide dramaturgical guidance and precise coaching on structure, character, suspense, dialogue, and theatrical action. One-acts and full-lengths, ten-minutes or one-person, we can bring your story to life.

  • Memoirs

Most of the authors I publish at Ibis Books are first-time memoirists. From concept and structure to helping you pull out the most impactful memories and turning them into captivating writing, I can help you tell your story!

  • Keynotes

As with plays, I can provide big picture coaching on turning an idea into a full-fledged keynote or give you nitty-gritty editing on a fully drafted speech. I can also provide you performance coaching, including vocal warm-ups, elocution tips, and presentation dynamics.

  • Public Speaking

These are some of my favorite projects! Do you need to introduce a guest? Open a gala with a captivating welcome? Offer the toast at a wedding or reception? I can help you both with the structuring, the writing, and the performance.

  • You covered more ground than any speaker I have heard talk to the club, but in a heartfelt, light, well-delivered way. Thank you again.

  • Jason was awesome in helping with putting my thoughts about the bride and groom together. I had a LONG list of discombobulated stories, anecdotes, and qualities I wanted to talk about, but no idea how to structure it into a coherent public speech. Jason took the weight off my shoulders and executed it flawlessly.

  • In the past ten years, I have attended many events in which speakers of varied organizations have spoken, and Jason is heads above the others. He was well-spoken, interesting, and so very enthusiastic!

Let’s work together

Email me at jason@jasoncannon.art, tell me a bit about your story and what your goals and timelines are, and I’ll get back to you within two business days.

RATES

For process-based or open-ended jobs, my rate is $105/hour.

These jobs would include editing, reviewing your drafts and sending notes, in-person or zoom coaching sessions, and ghostwriting short-to-medium length works.

For larger and product-based jobs (full-length plays and books, keynotes, adaptations), we can negotiate a fair fee and break it down into a reasonable schedule.

I typically start with something like one-third at signing of contract, one-third at a meaningful midway point, and one-third at delivery of final draft (or half/quarter/quarter). But that can all be tweaked based on scope of project and your workflow and deadline.

And if you’re not entirely sure which category fits your story, contact me anyway and we’ll talk it through!

GUARANTEES

Full disclosure… there are no money-back guarantees.

Why not?

Because in the storytelling biz, if someone promises you specific results, they are lying. For two reasons.

One, you can’t control audiences and readers. All you can do is offer, with integrity and no expectation.

Two, the results are far more dependent on YOUR work than MINE.

I cannot guarantee that you’ll do the work. Or that you’ll test my advice or have the courage to start, the stamina to edit, and the willingness to present. I cannot guarantee that you’ll spend the time to make our calls and implement the strategies. A coaching relationship means both sides invest to make sure it works.

Here’s what I can guarantee. I will root for you and your story with all my might. I will offer every bit of insight and storytelling advice I can, with no attachment to what ends up working for you. It will never be about what I want, only ever about what will make your story impactful. I can guarantee I will do my best to coach you up so far you’ll no longer need me.

SPEAKING & GUEST APPEARANCES

  • Speaker

I’m available to speak at your event, service club, or association meeting. I can curate stories and speeches to match your event, but I also have a few topics in my back pocket…

The Power of Storytelling in 3D

    Courage and Authenticity

How to Live an Artistic Life (even if you’re not an artist!)

  • Podcast/Media Guest

I am an upbeat, articulate, and generous guest for radio, TV, and podcasts.

If your listeners care about craft, creativity, and the courage it takes to tell the truth, I’d love to be your guest.

Note: I do not charge a fee to appear as a guest. All I ask is that you promote me and my work, and I will of course do the same for your show!

  • Emcee | Host

I’ve emceed showcases, non-profit events and award dinners, and improv shows.

I’ve also performed with orchestras and choirs, providing narration or spoken word elements.

  • Wedding Officiant

If you’re looking to tie the knot, I can even officiate your wedding.

Bring me to your show or event.

ONE MORE THING…

There is no such thing as an ordinary life.

I’ve been fortunate to work with a wide variety of professionals operating at the top of their game, from Tony Award-winners to Green Berets, and from C-Suite execs to IT-specialists and entrepreneurs.

But here’s the thing: storytelling doesn’t care about your accomplishments. It cares about whether you can make your audience care.

And if you can make your audience care? You can achieve deep and abiding change in them, in yourself, and in your community.

That’s what drives me: the belief that our stories are the best way to connect us, whatever may divide us. Stories empower. Stories enrich. Stories clarify. They are how we make sense of the world. They are how we access our humanity. They are how we heal, how we learn, how we grow.

I initially got into theatre because there was a built-in social aspect. My family moved a lot when I was a kid. I didn’t have consistent or deep friendships. Until I found theatre in high school. The power of collaboration, of a group pulling in the same direction, and not just to “win” but to create an experience that impacted an audience.

I stayed in theatre because I daily saw in real time the power of storytelling.

I left full-time theatre not because I didn’t believe in it anymore, but because there are so many other ways to tell stories, and I wanted to bring my experience to people who didn’t necessarily think they were creative or artistic.

There really is nothing more powerful than simply telling your story. Whatever yours is, whether it’s on the page or on the stage, I can help you craft it.
